What am I?

Hello. I'm new here.

Interesting site. I look forward to interesting conversations here.

Let me introduce myself....

I was born in CA (but no longer live there) and grew up in the city.

I come from a family of modest means.

I was baptized Lutheran.

I went to Sunday School as a child and have, on occasion, attended church as an adult.

I'm a college graduate.

I enjoy art. Not into music so much.

I'm interested in nature and the natural sciences.

I've always been fascinated by ancient Greece and Greek mythology.

I'm a liberal Democrat.

I'm married, no children.

I have a dog. I love animals.

Based on the above information, do you think I'm an atheist or a believer?

Or, ask me for more information, other than "Are you a believer or an atheist?" of course. lol

OK, so this tells us you prefer friendships/relationships that are superficially nice rather than brutally honest. You'd rather have people be nice to you than give you their honest opinion. So we know you choose your beliefs based on what makes you feel good rather than the cold hard facts of science and logic.

Probably some kind of New Age, can't we all just get along system of belief?

Based on the name 'Theia' you must believe you are part of the eternal spirit of new ageism.

You think you are a goddess in waiting?

No, I like honesty in friendships but you were not establishing a friendship. Your comment was a prejudiced, hostile, criticism, making assumptions about what I believe based on your stereotypical view of liberals. I consider the manner in which you expressed it as unfriendly, not the honesty itself.

No, I'm not New Age, nor do I believe in any sort of eternal spirit. My reason for picking a goddess name was for the irony.

Guessing games rock.  I

Guessing games rock.  I love these:

Has anyone guessed "Vegan Pantheist" w/ a flair for the dramatic who likes long walks in the park, Broadway shows and light B & D ?

I'd try for more, but unless I can read your palm, get your zodiac sign or rustle up a batch of organic tea leaves to examine, that's all I can muster for right now.

Well this may be off topic, but if people hold certain views, they must be of a certain type. This is not prejudiced this is logic.

If someone claims a theist belief, they must be delusional or dishonest. There is no other logical conclusion to make about such people.

If someone claims to be a liberal democrats, they must believe that government should be like a nanny to everyone. To me it's irrational to think a government can operate this way. So I'm just letting you know I think you hold irrational views of how the world actually works. I also think all liberal democrats support stealing from people who honestly earn their money. So it's like saying "I support robbing banks" and then expecting me to be friendly toward you. It's not hostile it's honest.

Personally, I'm kind of put off by people that are overly friendly at first, this usually means they want something for nothing from you. That's what turned me off of religion, the niceness that people have is all a big act. Be nice and friendly to get heaven instead of hell.

I'm nice and friendly to people I meet in real life.  I'm not trying to get anything out of it.

By that line of reasoning then I am justified in concluding that all Republicans are self-centered and greedy. Do you agree Watcher?

*grins*  Hey, don't pull me into this.  lol

I'm neither a republican nor a democrat right now.  I am becoming more liberal as I age though.  However I would agree that painting the entire group of people with a stereotypical characteristic is obviously complete shit.

Well, that's probably true of all people that we are self-centered and have the instinct to horde our wealth. You have to have a degree of selfishness to survive. You can call that greed if you want.

To me, you have been brainwashed by our Christian society in to believing there is such a thing a morality. So, when I make a statement about your positions, you think I'm implying that you are morally deficient, while you believe that by being a liberal democrat you are being morally good. This is your 'morality comes from God' brainwashing.

Morality is a Bullshit concept, it is just saying "you should give me something for nothing". So when I make a statement about your positions, I'm not saying it's morally good or bad. This is survival strategy of the liberal democrat - give me something(medical care, welfare, etc..) for nothing cause this is morally good.

The greedy Republicans do the same thing. Give me the land, natural resources of the earth to exploit and pollute for profit without paying a price for this privilege. Something for nothing just like the liberal Democrat. This is no more morally wrong than a dog(our evolutionary relative) that protects his food from the rest of the pack. Just a survival strategy.

In a post-religious rational world there can be no morality, just mutually beneficial contracts. We compete and cooperate with each other. Just as there is no need for religion, there is no need for politics. LDs want the government to be like Santa Claus. Sorry, but there is no Santa.

You got dragged into it because of your equally stereotypical remark earlier:

"Liberals believe that if you work hard and are financially successful in life you should have to give more of it away to help the poor that would rather whine about being poor than actually striving to get a decent education and job."

Conservatives just don't get

Conservatives just don't get that 90% of what happens to you is due to luck, circustances of birth, how others treat you and other things completely out of your control. The idea that hard work leads to success is among the stupidest things I ever heard in my life.

That remark was colored in a special circumstance.  Mattshizzle has expressed very strong socialist opinions in the past.  So much so that he thinks that anyone who is rich should be executed and that we should loot all the stores and kill everyone that tries to stop us.  So, while a person not familiar of the history it would seem I was being a shit to liberals...I really wasn't.  I don't think all or even most of liberals believe that.  I think that Mattshizzle thinks that.  And that was what I was going for.

If you press me I will admit that there are a lot of people that just get the shitty end of the stick in life sometimes.  And they genuinely deserve some help from their government.  However, on the other hand, some people tend to exploit any help provided by the government to be lazy.  So a fine balance of controls need to be established.  I'm not against our government helping out those that are in a desperate spot due to circumstances beyond their control.  Not in the least.  I think actually that would be the most morally imperative thing to do.  However, we need to ensure that people do not exploit that assistance to simply be lazy.

It's a complex situation that either extreme does not work adequatly in theory or practice.  That's why I am currently in the middle of both ideas.

The mega rich should not

The mega rich should not exist. We are radically out of reasonable balance today. The rich calling the shots, as the the masses are kept dumbed downed.  It's insane, but who much even knows? , and why not?  Is this current reality just our temporary life test?, as the religious would have us bow and surrender to the smoke screen fueled by the rich?

The "rich" like it the way it is , therefore they are the enemy .... keeping the "poor" brainwashed, guilty, religiously superstitious, and in fear,  is what they "subconsciously" do, as we most all "by into" this training and brainwash  ..... WAKE UP , EAT THE RICH NOW !    ..... yeah Matt .....
