God's Plan for kids
I was struck this morning by a curious juxtaposition of stories on CNN.
The first was an emotional story about a Christian singer who asks all other Christians to adopt children. He believes that "God has a loving plan for each child."

Then, I read another story on the front page, about a missing girl, who police now believe "may have been kidnapped by a pedophile ring."

I would say that God's plan for those kids(orphanages and slavery to pedophiles) seems a bit harsh, but I admit it's a step up from the Bible.
All that is necessary for the triumph of good is that evil men do nothing.

I got a hearty laugh from the contrast.
What really freaks me out is that the article about gods love for orphans is about an orphan dying. WTF?!
This quote sums up my thoughts on christianity pretty well..
How I read this quote:
If christians did what they said they did, they wouldn't be as much of a problem as they are.
If I have gained anything by damning myself, it is that I no longer have anything to fear. - JP Sartre
Wouldn't them adopting an orphan be interfering with god's plan?
I always laugh at the catholic opposition against birth control. It seems that god just cannot defeat the pill. If god is supposed to be all powerful and has determined how many children or which child to place in your care then birth control seriously limits its' power. Sorry, I know this was a distraction from the OP, but seems somewhat relevent.
I don't believe god exists therefore god does not have a plan for children or anyone for that matter. There are so many sad stories everyday about the precious lives here on Earth. It really bothers me when children have to suffer, but that's the way it is.
As for the adopting part, I totally agree that there are more than enough children to adopt in the world. However, the constant railing against abortion burns my ass especially when coming from a christian that has not adopted an unwanted child. I always say put your money where your mouth is and adopt a child from Africa who's mom died of AIDS. Otherwise abortion will always remain a necessary "evil" I support. It does seem odd that god's plan for a child doesn't include a set of parents though. Hopefully, the girl will be found alive and untouched, but chances are slim unless we all get down on our knees right now and oh wait.............. nevermind I was going to say pray but prayer doesn't work so................... Honestly I hope that she is found safely.

You know how they are: they would just say that it was god's plan for them to adopt all along. But of course they would deny that god's plan is responsible for slavery to pedophiles.
On a related topic: I am pissed that the Supreme Court has banned the execution of pedophile rapists. If someone rapes a 10 year old I think society should be allowed to just get rid of that piece of garbage.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

If only this couldn't be used as a battlecry to enlist more people in church meetings. I can't think of how many times I went to a prayer meeting and listened to some dude tell us how we ought to be more Christian because most Christians weren't very Christian. It's kind of a facepalm moment now... DUH... Christianity is contradictory and goes against damn near everything we know about human nature. That's why nobody acts like Christians say they ought to act. (Except, of course, when they need to act like barbarians with swords... Christians are historically pretty good at exploiting that part of human nature.)
