The Atlas of Creation
I've found my new favourite book in the world.
Very recently the chemistry department, and perhaps others, at my University was sent several copies of the first volume of the "Atlas of Creation". One was given to the professor leading my group and I managed to salvage it before he had it thrown out. Written by an Adnan Oktar (nom de plume Harun Yahya), it is a gloriously chunky book - just under A3 size I would say - and it's premise is that it will use the fossil record to disprove evolution and instill the reader with confidence that the world was created by God, helped by quotes from the Qur'an.
I've not had a proper chance to read it but a brief flick through yields the following highlights:
- The bulk of the book consists pages upon pages of fossil pictures with commentary to explain where they were found, what they are etc. etc. This is of course to prove that it's SCIENCETM. I read one of the comments to discover that it said something like "These tree fossils are the same as trees that we see today. Therefore plants have not undergone evolution. Evolution is teh suxxor". I'm paraphrasing slightly
- A mention of Behe. Nuff said.
- All the written arguments are contained in several chapters in the back of the book. From the chapter headings alone it looks like a veritable sweet shop of logical fallacies and tired old "Darwinism leads to WAR AND DEATH RAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!".
Honestly I think people should pick this up and use it as an atheist primer. Here are all the creationist arguments you'll ever need to bat down in one easy volume!!!
I'm going to read it over the next couple of days, just to fulfill my own perverse interest, and I'll see if I can find anything more horrifyingly ridiculous than this caption I just found under a picture of the two towers being attacked:
"No matter what ideology they might espouse, those who perpetrate terror all over the world are, in reality, Darwinists. Darwinism is the only philosophy that places a value on - and thus encourages - conflict"

I think that book would offend me.
This book has been covered on richarddawkins.net.

I think you'll be surprised by just how shamelessly deceitful this book is.
But just have a look at this picture from the book
This is supposed to be a picture of some real insect.
Can you spot the flaw? (Hint: think about a hobby involving fish)
Well I was born an original sinner
I was spawned from original sin

I have two of them already. I'm starting a collection. Anyone who gets their hands on one and wants to send it to me, let me know and we'll work it out.

Don't you guys know anything?! That's a species of insect god created to teach A&E to fish. It's a carnivorous predator that hovered enticingly above the water until a fish took the bait. Once the fish was hooked the insect flew away, taking the fish to an aerie to feed it's babies.
And, these people think we're the ignorant ones! I noticed the hook about a thousandth of a sec after I noticed the insect. They probably got the picture off public domain without even looking at it. From the sound of the comment you provided, they're simply making it up as they go with a lot of tweaking to make it add up to another pathetic argument.
Wonder where I can get a copy of this turgid tome? It'd make a fun read and give me plenty of ammo when I tease the fundies at work.

Didn't realise that this had already been looked at by Dawkins et al. Think I'll have a look at the edition we've been sent this year, see if he's managed to fix his little "errors"
