Letter to editor of local paper.
Before you read this, one of my mom's friends pointed out an error, I called Obama the son of an immagrant, when I should have said he was the son of a man who came to study and then left, BUT in reading this she misses the entire motif tha Obama himself is not disqualified because he was born in America and is a citizen. So sue me.
The point was to show non-Christians that they can if they wish, compete in politics all the way up to the top, if they meet the Constitutional requirements. Obama clearly meets all the Constitutional requirements.
Dear Editor, How long is it going to take for our society to stop treating anyone as second class. The historic ellection certainly is a reminder that we can grow. However, there are many in this country, who may want public office, but will not get it based on race or party label or religion. It wasn't that long ago that blacks and women would have no shot at any high office, much less local public office. I am thrilled that the son of an imigrant is now our president, which affirms that we are truely a nation of immigrants. However, it seems that people still collectively in our wonderfully diverse nation, still think that there is a sign on the White House door, "Non Christians need not apply". That is simply false by virtue of the words, "No religious test" in the Constitution. There is absolutely nothing preventing, for example, an American born here, in America, of Japanese dissent, from applying to run for president. If that person convinces most of the voting public to put her/him into the oval office, they have rightfully won that office. We have a Muslim in Keith Elleson in our congress. We even have an open atheist in Pete Stark in our congress. Yet it is still a widely false belief that these same citizens could not be president. They cant, right now, not because of the Constitution. Keith swore in on a Koran, not a bible, once owned by Thomas Jefferson. They cant be president even if they are qualified, because of the phobia of the voting public, not because of the words in the Constitution. I am thrilled at the growing inclusion as evidence of this historic event. But, for the same reason that people wouldn't vote for Mitt Romney, who rightfully said what John F. Kennedy said, and John Kerry repeated, "I will not use my artical of faith to legislate on others". Our nation is about pluralism, and blacks shouldn't have ever been subjected to the opression they were. Isn't it time that we extend Martin Luther King Jr's words to mean the following? "I long to see the day, when a human, is not judged on the religious label, or party label, but the content of their actions". It is not for me, about shutting doors on anyone, but opening minds in order to open the door for all citizens to partisipate in the greatest Constitution in human history.

It's still totally sweet. Nice to see someone raising the issue. Every little bit of consciousness raising we can do does add to the whole.
"I am that I am." - Proof that the writers of the bible were beyond stoned.
