God is not the creator, according to the Bible.
“There was already water,” she said. “There were sea monsters. God did create some things, but not the Heaven and Earth. The usual idea of creating-out-of-nothing, creatio ex nihilo, is a big misunderstanding.” God came later and made the earth livable, separating the water from the land and brought light into the darkness. She said she hoped that her conclusions would spark “a robust debate”, since her finds are not only new, but would also touch the hearts of many religious people. She said: “Maybe I am even hurting myself. I consider myself to be religious and the Creator used to be very special, as a notion of trust. I want to keep that trust.” A spokesman for the Radboud University said: “The new interpretation is a complete shake up of the story of the Creation as we know it.” Prof Van Wolde added: “The traditional view of God the Creator is untenable now.” Full article here: http://www.dailyglobal.com/2009/10/god-is-not-the-creator-claims-academic/ So apparently, God according to the Bible did NOT create everything from nothing. According to the Bible, their god pretty much found a planet with life on it, terraformed it a little, and put us on it. The idea that this god created everything is a mistake according to the earlier texts.
Theism is why we can't have nice things.

Anyway, I can't wait for them to work all that new info into their mythology. Would love to hear a hymn about god defeating the seamonsters.
And did you read that bit about there being more than one god ? So much for monotheism.
Anonymouse I noticed you had the first up post on the topic. That line about 'more the one god' wasn't new, it shows up in the First Commandment "Thou shalt have no other god before me." The form is plural and means there are more gods just don't follow them.
"Very funny Scotty; now beam down our clothes."
VEGETARIAN: Ancient Hindu word for "lousy hunter"
If man was formed from dirt, why is there still dirt?
Sorry, I should have been more clear. One of the "new" things she claims her work brings to the surface (this is in her thesis, I don't think it's in the article), is that there were other gods involved in the decision to divide the earth and the heavens.
I'd translate the whole thing for you guys, but it's like 28 pages.
(anyhoo, that smiley's there for a reason. I'm just glad the story's getting around and more people are noticing it, as she seemed really serious about getting a discussion going with creationists. The more topics about this the better)
Yeah, sorry I didn't see your post on the subject. You got to it first
Yay !
It's funny, though. This made the front page of a few papers over here, and all the theologians were like "meh, we already knew that".
Haven't heard a reaction from a creationist yet.
The God in the Babble isn't even a God. He's the reflection or image of the ignorant morons who invented him. As if we didn't already know that right? LOL ....
I am an atheist because I do not believe in any Gods or anything related to the imaginary subjective supernatural realm that does not exist outside the mind. -- NotSaved
