Poetry by Brian37 (poems by an atheist)

I post all over the web, but I want a back up in case my computer or one particular website goes down.

I have decided to edit this post because I do not like giving people the wrong impression. I cannot read Shakespeare to save my life. I just remember this one line from act 5 scene 5 and put my own spin on it. I've had to explain this over and over so here I decided to put that in this post so there is no more presuming what I know or don't know. But the plot of MacBeth is the old lesson, you can have everything and nothing at all at the same time. And how did all that cruelty serve you in the end? But I do not like play summeries calling him a Nihisist, because it is possible to not do what he did, and accept life as being finite, and sitll have morals without religion. 

 

NEW EDIT 9/19/22 I got pissed at myself that I was scared to read MacBeth, so tonight, I forced myself to read it online. Now mind you, I did not understand it line for line, but basically Macbeth was an assdhole who murdered his way to the top, and did not believe the 3 witches prophcies. He murdered Duncan and had Banquo murdered. Banquo's ghost haunts Macbeth. And made the grave mistake of attacking McDuff's family and killing them(If I am reading this correctly) But Lady MacBeth has a guilty conscience and kills herself, upon finding out Macbeth basically says that life is not worth living and he should go down with a fight anyway, but refuses to fight  Macduff face to face and Macduff kills him as the hero. ( I SERIOUSLY read the entire play every line, tonight.  I even know where the famous line "double double, toil and trouble". comes from. The three witches, basically saying "look out Macbeth" your ass is in trouble. 

So basically the moral of the play, don't be a fucking asshole when trying to get to the top, or "the bigger they are the harder they fall". Reminds me of the movie Scarface and all the shitty things Tony did to get to the top and all for not. But Sosa in that case was not a good guy either.

Of course "blasphemy" has religious significance to them, not to us. Where did I claim "blasphemy" had no religious significance?

 

Just like the word "sin" does, but in reality it would be like saying "it is a sin to call Thor an asshole".

We are hurting their egos, not a real god. It is not a crime to have your ego bruised. It is a crime to get violent and oppress others because they pick on your god/religion.

 

Both words are actually meaningless but since they use them we respond using their words.

 

Brian's "Blasphemy Challenge" was to demonstrate the absurdity of idea that you can actually hurt a fictional being. Both "sin" and "blasphemy" are childish words rooted in superstition.

My "obsession" is not with him the person, but his claims on the issue of economics. If anyone else was making the same arguments for Ayn Rand crap, I'd take issue with them too. He's not the only one who thinks that way. He just happens to be the one I deal with the most at this website. I am currently having it out with someone else on another board who also scapegoats the poor.

 

Outside that issue I think he can be quite reasonable and I do think he has a good sense of humor. I also think he has a thicker skin than most atheists and theists. I don't think he needs you to defend him, he doesn't have a glass jaw.

Which is why he ignores rich people and PHD economists who would agree with me. Never said anyone had to take my word for it.

Economics isn't as simple as balancing a checkbook and demanding labor compete for the lowest wages. If he wants that kind of caste system he should try being poor in India.

Your god commands you

To murder others

To show us your bigotry

And hatred you sell

 

Hypocrites be such

You look to the East

Rightfully condemning

While oppressing others

Ignoring that zealots

The screen saver

Was that of a lioness

Inplying the cat's desire

To be the lioness

 

It is wanting the butterfly

In the inkblot

To be a real butterfly

Even though it is not

 

This is the same

In that of god/s

A mere reflection

Of human's desires

 

The covered olives at Halloween

In darkened room

Told they are  "eyeballs"

You touch them and scream

 

The claims of gods

We have not at birth

Aduts infect kids with them

When they are defensless

Out of a book

The comand is made

"Take them up

Don't be afraid"

 

They dance and sing

And speak in tounge

A rattling tail

Slithers along their arms

 

They are not trappers

Called to a house

To remove such danger

From where they dwell

 

They are not biologists

Nor extracting venom

In order to save lives

Of accidental bites

 

They read some words

Then react in horror

When reality bites them

Because of what they needlessly swallowed

 

"Take them up"

With out question

Because it says so

Makes you an idiot

 

The anti venom

The only cure

Is to take that book

For what it really is

 

Nothing to value

Or hold to be true

The baby's rattle

Is the poison in you

 

Your childish faith

That makes you blind

You take stupid risks

Because of this

 

The toxin is you

In your bad logic

To do insane things

Over a stupid verse

Chasing the bus

He scurries

Down the stairs

To give her the music box

 

He taught her about

Trafic lights

Crossing the street

To find her way

 

Salina learned

Of rotery phones

Desperately wanting

To escape her home

 

Gordan met her

In the park

Where she strung beads

Under the tree

 

The park her respite

To escape the abuse

Rose-Ann her mother

Made her desperate

 

The constant fights

In the apartment of squalar

Ole Pa on the bottle

Nothing to look forward to

 

But Gordon new better

Than that evil wench

Saved her from the rain

The blind girl was caught in

 

He spoke of brail

And of going to school

Something he knew

She could really do

 

The music box

Spoke of love

And was why

He put her on the bus

This is my second poem about the movie "A Patch of Blue". It has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. Yes it was about race relationships. But I really identify with the blind girl beyond that issue. As a kid I wanted to escape the bullies and bigotry I grew up with. And although I know my parents love me, they were authoritarians whom had a hard time with a boy being sensitive. I identify with her becuase deep inside her character was a girl who simply wanted to be happy and it seemed that the world wanted to suck the happiness out of her. It wasn't until I became an adult that I learned that other people's baggage didn't have to be mine. Today was the second time I saw this movie, and I am quite sure every time I watch it, it will make me cry. (FYI, the phone number in the title(I hope I wrote it down right) is the number she learns to dial in the phone booth.

 

If you have not seen that movie, it is a must see!

In the mitten state
The Arbor tree
Grew up with hate

Shouts of "nigger"
And "white power"
One of the bigots
Lost his way

He found himself
Outside his ranks
Surrounded by
Those he hated

The angrey mob
Punched and kicked
His face, his back
To the ground he went

Emotions high
Understandably so
But one black lady
Understood

Keshia stepped in
To cover the bigot
In fetal position
Outumbered and surrounded

Why protect
Such vile people
Why not let them
Beat him up

The cowaring coward
Was outnumbered
And her compassion
Was better than he'd give

She dispised his hate
But also knew
In the face of bigotry
The mob should not rule

To do to him
Would be no better
Than white mobs
Would do to her

Some time later
His son found her
And thank her for
Protecting his father

Compassion rests
Not in being free
Of hatefull words
Or vile decree

Compassion rests
In all of us
To do the right thing
Even when offended

To be vigilantes
Is nothing to aspire
Humanity's lesson
Is Keshia's desire

A picture posted on Facebook based on a real news story that took place in the 90s inspired this poem. It was about a black woman protecting a KKK member who had seperated from the protest area who was suddenly surrounded by those he hated. There would have been a time when I was younger where I might have joined in in beating that bigot up. Keshia Thomas covered the guy who ended up in the fetal position surrounded by those atempting to beat him.

She is an inspiration to humanity. It isn't compassion to silence people that hate you. It is compassion to treat them better than they would treat you.

This was real life. But prior to this way back in the 70s this act of compassion was the script for an episode of The Jeffersons. George found out that white bigots were going to hold a rally at a hotel. He showed up just to witness it so they would have to say it to his face. The head speaker of the rally in the middle of his hate filled speech suffered a heart attack. George knew CPR and preformed it on the bigot. The guy survived and still said "I wish you had let me die". But that display of compassion, even though lost on the bigot, showed the audience how wrong they were, and even the son in the episode ended up realizing how wrong his bigoted father was.

The inscription
 Is not what they claim

The shaft of Baal

Were very gory
In their depictions
Of horror movies

One little known
Had no Ned
Or squealing pigs
In of isolation

A female writer
On sabbatical
Encountered men
After her

The lake house
In upstate
She thought she'd find
An oasis

Yet the vultures
Captured her
Ravaged her
In brutal meter

Taking turns
Thus defiled
The viewer empathized
Wanting revenge

Over the course
Of this movie
One by one
She she picked them off

Inviting the mastermind
Into a bath
Claiming to like it
She convinced the man

Knife under mat
He was unaware
Of his loins
She'd make short order

Stroking her rapist
In the ivory tub
He had no clue
Of of the sudden slice

Ejaculate
He thought it was
To his surprise
His own blood

She locked him in
The bathroom
To bleed him out
For raping her

The rest of his friends
Fell the same
She got revenge
For what they did

Now while I am no fan of vigilante justice this poem does depict the theme of how women feel about rape and was graphically depicted in the slasher film "I Spit On Your Grave".

At a private school
I used to attend
Atop a hill
I was standing

A tall railing
Above a sidewalk
I was leaning
Looking down on the street

It was a field day
With lots of games
Outside we'd play
No nothing to study

On the road
A car passed by
It's right passenger tire
Kicked a rock to it's side

The driver heard the noise
Seeing me prior
When he approached
Assumed a kid had thrown it

He pulled in
And made his complaint
To the principle
To which I approached

"No one threw it
"I saw what happend
The tire kicked it up"
I became the suspect

He took us all in
To the lunch room
Until I confessed
Which I did not do

The day ended
With everyone angry
The kids and the staff
Were the lynch mob

So to this day
When I see presumption of guilt
People like Nancy Grace
Make society worse

Until you are put

Two sorority girls expire on a lawn?

These were legally purchased
It wasn't just mental illness
It is the flooded market

It is the ease of access
The volume being made
Protecting profit margins
Filling up the morgues

You selfishly
Protect an industry
That cares not
Who gets killed

All you are
Is a lobbyist
Filling your bank account
With blood money

From urban streets
To kids access
Abusive spouses
And criminals too

You blame the user
Make it legal vs illegal
When this is not
The real issue

300 million
Everywhere
How many more Wayne
Before it is clear

To long it took,
To remove
Leaded gas
From our vehicles

Nadar screamed
For decades
Cost of seat belts
Car companies complained.

Coal ash dumped
In Tar Heel rivers
Under cloak of secrecy
The same state delivers

Fracking now legal
No citizens questioned
You can be arrested
For exposing it's chemicals

Low tax rates
For the wealthy
Caused the great depression
And the great recession

It is obvious
That there is no "we"
In that of the "people"
In our rising oligarchy

Our climate must change
And put people first
Rule by one class
Only makes things worse

The lion kills

Rival cubs

Still humans thinK

Evolution we are above

 

We see rape

In other primates

And still we think

All life is pretty

 

50 million

Die worldwide

From everything

Year in year out

 

Disease and famine

Birth to old age

Crime and war

We still ignore

 

Religion offers

No solution

To problem solving

To our common existence

 

It gives rise

To brutality

Based on tribalism

And absurd claims

 

If of Allah

Or that of Yahweh

If of Jesus

Or that of Vishnu

 

If any of those

Were the cure

Certainly humans

Would have peace by now

 

Instead we see

Constant violence

Bigotry and hate

Even within  the same ranks

 

Cruelty and compassion

Are in our evolution

Independent

Of tribal clubs

 

200 thousand

Years ago

Nothing today

That is believed

 

Was around then

And we still existed

Managed to reproduce

Evolution continued

 

Our flawed perceptions

In our club think

Leads to the brutality

We chose to ignore

 

Sunnis vs Shiites

Catholics vs Protestents

Jews vs Muslims

Changes not our evolution

 

Even with atheists

I always warn

Never to claim

"We'll treat you better"

Is no garantee

To stop even us

From the same brutality

 

Unfortunately

In reality

Compassion and cruelty

Work in evolution

 

To reduce

These such horrors

We must all accept

Our common existence

 

Short term thought

You do realize that half the people murdered in the spree you refer to were killed with a knife right? Of the people he attempted to murder, he had a much greater success rate with the knife than guns. The solution is obvious, replace all knives with guns.

If guns are not candy and they are not, then they should not be made at the volume of candy or handed out as easily as candy. This is not about rights at all. You are the one who masturbates over how great the private sector is so you should understand what is causing this. MONEY and just like any industry guns are a business too and their CEO's job is to keep and or expand the market. The original NRA when it started was a safety organization and was not a heat sheild to protect profits for the industry, but now it is. You are out of your mind if you think 300 million guns is managable and will reduce gun injury and death. I'll make you a deal, I will shut up when we get our gun deaths down to that of Japans.

In a utopia world I wouldn't give one fuck who owns a gun, but the shear amount floating around and the eas of access is not managable currently. More guns will not solve shit and the status quo is unacceptable.

Still doesn't change that 3 of them were murdered by knife and his success rate with the knife was 100%, while he was substantially less efficient with the gun. There are very good reasons for that, starting with a gun isn't a fucking miracle machine that means instant death to whoever you want to kill. It takes a lot of skill to kill a person with one shot, our SF guys fire litterally 10s of thousands of rounds to train themselves to achieve the feat of consistently killing people with one shot. Shot placement counts, something that fortunately, most mass murder wackos don't have. Usually because they buy a gun off the shelf, hit the range a few times (if that) and think they are going to mow people down by the dozens. Revenue of the gun industry: $12 billion. (including all guns, ammo and government sales)

Revenue of Nestle: $100 billion.

Since I know you are mathematically challengend $100 billion is much larger than $12 billion... and that is just one candy company. The whole candy industry is several hundred billion. 

Number of new guns per year: 20 million (more than double the average of previous years, Obama has been great for the gun industry, but for the sake of your argument, we will assume that is the new normal) By the way, the fastest growing segment of gun owners are women, like Candy. 

Number of Hershey bars sold per year: 123 million.

(123 million > 20 million)

How about weight? 

I can't find a candy stat, but Americans eat over 2 BILLION pounds of chocolate per year. Just chocolate, a large piece of the candy market, but by no means all. 

Guns? Impossible to calculate for sure, but lets go extreme. My most recent acquisition is system that is 19 pounds. It is a big fucking gun that is highly specialized, much heavier than what most people buy. Most pistols are measured in ounces and your typical hunting shotgun is going to be in the 5-7 pound range. But to give your argument a prayer, let's pretend that everyone who bought a gun, bought a 19 pound one. 19 * 20 million= 380 million pounds.  

380 million < 2 billion

So how are you measuring? By revenue, number and weight, candy production far outstrips guns. (Yet, we all know you will continue with the lie)

Really? I've never had to even show my drivers license to purchase candy. For my last purchase, I had to pay in full up front and then fill out an application. The application required me to go to the local police station, get finger printed, provide two copies of my passport photo, pay a $200 extortion tax, wait for the fucking ATF to process my paper work and decide that I'm not a terrorist (5 months, fortunately, my gun was being custom made so the gun and supressor were able to be completed together) and then when I picked up my new gun, I had to fill out another form that will sit in a dusty file forever until the government decides they need to know who to kill first. All because I decided I would like my hearing to last until I am at least 60 and make my gun super deadly by adding a suppressor. Money doesn't cause anything. Money is a result. You get money by satisfying the demands of people. Right now, a lot of people want guns. Although, a lot more people want candy. If your sole goal is to become rich, candy is far more promising than guns. More demand, fewer regulations, fewer barriers of entry and a much larger profit margin. That is why you probably have a couple of local candy companies that make jellies or brownies of fudge or something, but probably don't have a local gun maker. The gun industry has pretty much consolidated into a couple of behemoths. The company that currently owns the worlds largest gun manufacturer (Freedom Group) is called Cerberus Capital has investments in excess of $20 billion and they've been looking to sell. Their gun investments are a drop in the bucket to them. There is no vast conspiracy and huge money in guns. At the level these companies play at, the gun industry is a rounding error. No, it was not a safety organization. The NRA was initially nothing more than a club of people who enjoyed shooting rifles and decided to organize it into a competition. It was, is and always has been an organization that mostly consists of target shooters and hunters. If you find a gun nut at  an NRA convention, you better buy a lottery ticket because it is your lucky day. They never addressed the topic of safety until 1988 (over 100 years after its founding) with Eddie Eagle. The NRA is not, and never has been against gun control. They have always been and are now extremely weak on the subject. Which is why I am not a member.

Of course 300 million guns are manageable, that is less than one gun per person. I have 28 and I manage to shoot all of them on a fairly regular basis. I do have one shotgun that mostly collects dust because it was my grandfathers and wasn't cared for very well. I keep it more for sentimental reasons than anything. So call it 27 guns I manage. Well then you should be pushing for a police state. Have you ever studied Japan's justice system? (Yeah, I know you haven't) There is a reason they have low crime rates across the board. I wouldn't want to live in that kind of system, but it is very effective. All I have to say, is when you convict 99% of people, you are catching pretty much all the bad guys, but you are also putting a lot of innocents in prisons.
