Poetry by Brian37 (poems by an atheist)

I post all over the web, but I want a back up in case my computer or one particular website goes down.

I have decided to edit this post because I do not like giving people the wrong impression. I cannot read Shakespeare to save my life. I just remember this one line from act 5 scene 5 and put my own spin on it. I've had to explain this over and over so here I decided to put that in this post so there is no more presuming what I know or don't know. But the plot of MacBeth is the old lesson, you can have everything and nothing at all at the same time. And how did all that cruelty serve you in the end? But I do not like play summeries calling him a Nihisist, because it is possible to not do what he did, and accept life as being finite, and sitll have morals without religion. 

 

NEW EDIT 9/19/22 I got pissed at myself that I was scared to read MacBeth, so tonight, I forced myself to read it online. Now mind you, I did not understand it line for line, but basically Macbeth was an assdhole who murdered his way to the top, and did not believe the 3 witches prophcies. He murdered Duncan and had Banquo murdered. Banquo's ghost haunts Macbeth. And made the grave mistake of attacking McDuff's family and killing them(If I am reading this correctly) But Lady MacBeth has a guilty conscience and kills herself, upon finding out Macbeth basically says that life is not worth living and he should go down with a fight anyway, but refuses to fight  Macduff face to face and Macduff kills him as the hero. ( I SERIOUSLY read the entire play every line, tonight.  I even know where the famous line "double double, toil and trouble". comes from. The three witches, basically saying "look out Macbeth" your ass is in trouble. 

So basically the moral of the play, don't be a fucking asshole when trying to get to the top, or "the bigger they are the harder they fall". Reminds me of the movie Scarface and all the shitty things Tony did to get to the top and all for not. But Sosa in that case was not a good guy either.

Since I know you are mathematically challengend $100 billion is much larger than $12 billion... and that is just one candy company. The whole candy industry is several hundred billion. 

Number of new guns per year: 20 million (more than double the average of previous years, Obama has been great for the gun industry, but for the sake of your argument, we will assume that is the new normal) By the way, the fastest growing segment of gun owners are women, like Candy. 

Number of Hershey bars sold per year: 123 million.

(123 million > 20 million)

How about weight? 

I can't find a candy stat, but Americans eat over 2 BILLION pounds of chocolate per year. Just chocolate, a large piece of the candy market, but by no means all. 

Guns? Impossible to calculate for sure, but lets go extreme. My most recent acquisition is system that is 19 pounds. It is a big fucking gun that is highly specialized, much heavier than what most people buy. Most pistols are measured in ounces and your typical hunting shotgun is going to be in the 5-7 pound range. But to give your argument a prayer, let's pretend that everyone who bought a gun, bought a 19 pound one. 19 * 20 million= 380 million pounds.  

380 million < 2 billion

So how are you measuring? By revenue, number and weight, candy production far outstrips guns. (Yet, we all know you will continue with the lie)

Really? I've never had to even show my drivers license to purchase candy. For my last purchase, I had to pay in full up front and then fill out an application. Money doesn't cause anything. Money is a result. You get money by satisfying the demands of people. Right now, a lot of people want guns. Although, a lot more people want candy. No, it was not a safety organization. The NRA was initially nothing more than a club of people who enjoyed shooting rifles and decided to organize it into a competition. If you find a gun nut at  an NRA convention, you better buy a lottery ticket because it is your lucky day. They never addressed the topic of safety until 1988 (over 100 years after its founding) with Eddie Eagle. Of course 300 million guns are manageable, that is less than one gun per person. I have 28 and I manage to shoot all of them on a fairly regular basis. Well then you should be pushing for a police state. Have you ever studied Japan's justice system? (Yeah, I know you haven't) There is a reason they have low crime rates across the board. Last line says it all. 300 million guns is managable? So 500 million would be more managable? A billion guns would be more managable? It seems to me the status quo is acceptable to you because you want more guns.

I thought it was funny as hell when the NRA, had a rare moment of sanity and told the open carry nutters to back off, and then the nutters turned on them.

I bet these same morons would run screaming if a black person or muslim citizen walked into a public place with the same assault riffles.

Reportedly, the Seattle

Reportedly, the Seattle Pacific University shooter was subdued by pepper spray, during a lull in the action while he was reloading.  Had one or more members of the public been carrying, he might have been subdued sooner -- or more people might have been shot by stray bullets from the would-be heroes.

So the question is:  In which direction would we rather err?

I am the first to admit I am a horrible speller. I do try to use search engines to look words up, one gun huggers keep avoiding out of their own selfishness is the word "VOLUME".

There is no pragmatic way to manage the shear amount of guns both legal and illegal because of the flooded market. In a utopia I would not care who owns one and even some gun owners are sane enough to know we have a problem. MONEY is the reason we cant get anything done and the NRA is acting as the heat sheild to the industry that like any big business will do, use that influence to maintain the status quo and or expand their market.

Which position do I want to be in? Less gun death from ANYTHING.

So you gave me two options.

1. Gun

2. Peperspray

How about the third option?

3. Work long term for a society where we would have to worry about having to make either of those choices?

What is not optional at this point in history is to allow things to continue the way they are going.

It would not shock me if what you say came about. But if it does then it is a testemony to what a sad lot our species is to care more about a mere object than to care about human life. This kneejerk reaction is the same attitude Muslims have when you burn a Koran.

The other absurdity with this line of logic they use to defend gun ownership is why the fuck would you want your enemy armed? To insure you yourself don't get harmed by dissent you would have to do what Hitler did, expand gun rights to party loyalsts and ban them from rivals.

Their selfishness is merely nothing more than falsely claiming to be a victim because other people exist and vote. If they are willing to start a civil war over guns then what they are saying is that they do not value peaceful transfure of power which is what our Constitution was set up to do to avoid physical violence.

 

So if some gun nutfuck wants to murder me while I am unarmed because I object to the status quo and object to the volume made, being unarmed how would I be the bully?

You are not unarmed. The laws you support are enforced by one of the most heavily armed police forces to ever exist. Funny thing is even the NRA had a brief moment of sanity and told these nutters to stop scaring the shit out of people, but like cowards backed off doing the right thing for once.

You stupidly not only with the issues of guns but ecomics think nothing you personally do affects anyone else which is Ayn Rand bullshit. You have absolutly no fucking guts to say "RIGHTS RIGHTS RIGHTS" to those two dead cop's families or the innocent women's murdered in the Walmart. If gun rights are what you say are absolute then what that couple did was right, so either support them or accept that the status quo is unnacceptable.

Now for the billionth time, in a utopian world we could BOTH have what we want and I would give one fuck less who owns a gun. But just like saying the pay gap is to big is not a call to end the private sector, the conditions with the VOLUME of guns are not AT THIS POINT IN TIME under the "no rules" attitude the manufactures and NRA want, are pragmatic. The manufactures and NRA want all the profit and none of the responsibility, much like God is all powerful then blames humans for the conditions he creates.

We've put up with "rights" as an argument, we've tried to meet gun owners half way, and it isn't even about most gun owners at all, we've been obstructed from problem solving by an industry like republicans, controlled by monopolies and money.

You want to reduce gun death just like I do, at least I would hope you do. But "no rules" and "fuck you I got mine" and "other bad shit happens so lets not do anything about this bad shit", is unacceptable. Any idiot who thinks the amount of gun death from BOTH legall and illegal guns is acceptable is bat shit insane and nothing short of selfish.

Now just like the pay gap, you can work with us, or we well do it for you. But what will not happen is you playing false maryter and victim because someone else is making the attempt to use their voice in media and the voting booth to try to do things differently to SOLVE problems.

I believe that murder is a sufficient reason to use violent force. There is a huge difference between carrying a gun and murder.

For the billionth time, you have never specified exactly what gun laws you support. You have only advocated 'fewer', never specified how you get to fewer. As usual, you don't even have the courage to state your beliefs clearly. We don't live in a utopian world.  Bad guys have guns and no amount of wishing will change that. No law will stop it. The only people who obey gun laws are people who abide the law.

Different parties in power

 

After Regan

To argue policy

Or efficency

No matter what

Oversight never left

 

None of them

Could ever deem

President for life

On sudden whim

 

None of them

Not even today

Has the power

To dispand congress

 

Power shifts

Over time

It is not tyranny

If you lose

 

The only danger

I can percive

Is is corruption and greed

Which can affect everything

 

It is not limited

To government

The ways humans concive

Monopolies of power

 

Theocracies the same

If you stake a claim,

Based on blood,

Religion,

Or race

 

Claiming land

For a god

Or claiming

"I was here first"

 

Those are artificial  things

For the science is in

Common ancestors

From prior primates

 

Friend and foe alike

Rich and poor alike

As Sagan pleads to all

One home on which we live

 

With climate change a fact

Pollution alarmingly stacked

Our local tribalism

Needlessly distracts

 

We are not as different

As we would like to think

Free from fear we want

In the world in which we live

 

Our petty beefs between us

In which violence unfortunately thrives

Will never change the fact

All will meet demise

They hide behind

Played on through fear

A flooded market arises

 

Armed to the teeth

The public is

Then complain about police

Who fear harm themselves

 

Before their first beat

Trained from the start

To assume harm

On every call

 

They knock on your door

Or pull you over

Their families worry

They wont make it home

 

Any sign 

Of slightest trouble

Trained to dominate

Instead of de escalate 

 

This vile fetish

Infecting society

Creating mistrust

Causing overreach

 

You stupid morons

This industry

Sells to both

Caring not of death

 

Economics

Not your rights

Cops also desire

To make it home at night

 

Poverty wages

And volume of guns

And the industry

Who scares cops and society

 

Snakes on flags

Talk of tyranny

Killing cops

Is how they make money

 

Pit the parties

Against each other

Sell paranoia 

To everyone

 

The climate of blue

Is caused by the right

Who puts profits above

All human rights

 

You want big clips

And assault rifles 

Then expect cops

To use pea shooters

 

The gun factories

Are the only winners

Cops and society

Pay with our blood.

Down the stairs

Only bad guys die

 

Blame the owner

When things go wrong

General Motors

Was held responsible

 

Instructor dead

A girl traumatized 

Gun manufactures

Sell True Lies

 

They want our highways

And public roads

With no street lights

Or stop signs

 

A free for all

Is what they want

For sheer profit

At all costs

 

"Controlled environment"

At a gun range

Yet it still happened

Because of "True Lies"

 

Liberals do not

To get rid of all guns

Just some sanity

Instead of "True Lies"

 

You don't need an Uzi

To shoot a deer

You don't need an assault riffle 

To protect your house

 

The police do not need

This is the industry

Selling fear

I don't think I'm being irrational in speculating that there will never be ZERO gun deaths.  No matter what laws are in place, tragedy is going to strike, and people are going to get shot.  The question then is, how can tragedy be minimized, if it can't be eradicated altogether?

The intent isn't to reach perfection in saying that, but more to the point of getting focus where it should be. I do not want to get rid of all guns, even if that is my "utopia" I am not a dictator and I know others will want them. But our status quo is unacceptable.

You cant reach absolute zero but it would be nice to get as close as we can.

Taking away my guns won't save a single life. You have yet to identify exactly how you would change the current laws. Many of the laws I have supported have passed, and right now, gun deaths are at the lowest point since the '60s. How would the laws you support work better?
