Christ is real and he hated religion too. (mailbag response)
From: Mat Dod Sent: Tuesday, January 15, 2008 8:18 AM Subject: Re: [General Question] Hey Guys!
Man, you guys have it all messed up. I'm a hard core Christian, but I absolutely hate religion. I hate going to churches where they have to have candles and a little ceramony and everything else they do. You know who else despised religion? Jesus Christ! In fact, it was the stinking religious people that killed him! Man I don't know about you, or the rest of the world for that matter. But I know that I could not survive on this planet without the very real love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. I've studied both sides, I studied evolution ID creation (same I know) I studied world religions the whole deal. But after that day when I surendered my life to him I could see colour. It sounds wierd i know man, but, I just can't relay in an email the incredible amount of peace I felt that day. Think about it man, hey laugh some today! have some fun! God bless man, I'll be praying for you.
Thanks for the letter. We definitely agree on some points. Like you, we've studied both sides. I feel as if the one piece of information that may help you on your journey is to delve in to the origins of Christianity. Look at the similarities to other savior gods before him, look at the historical record, the fact that nobody wrote a word about Jesus until 30-70 years after his death at a time when people lived to be 35. In other words an entire generation of people lived in between the time that Jesus supposedly lived and the time that anyone thought to write a single word about him. There are many pieces to the Jesus puzzle that can help confirm that a man named Jesus Christ (son of god) never even walked on this Earth. It's a fictional tale based on previous tales (sometimes it seems almost plagiarized how similar the stories are to gods before him), a tale that after you reach the end of the rabbit hole you'll see there is no "love and forgiveness of Jesus." Jesus never existed.  Here are a few resources: "The God Who Wasn't There Movie" www.thegodmovie.com  Rooks forum for Jesus Mythicism: http://www.rationalresponders.com/forums/rook_hawkins/the_jesus_mythicist_campaign  Our friends: www.thejesusmyth.com   As for prayer, I must say the entire idea is an insult to our human dignity. You happened to catch me on a bad day for preaching about the efficacy of prayer. A family member committed suicide today, he was a Christian. At the scene of the suicide the words were uttered by his father over and over that "I don't understand how this happened we prayed for him all the time." I of course wouldn't have ever done such a thing as I realize prayer is not only worthless but it's an insult to our intellect and the short life we get. However after seeing the inefficacy of prayer his immediate family members said more prayers at the scene of the accident. Prayer is a crutch you use for comfort, a crutch that has been proven to be worthless. Try e-mail and speaking to people instead of prayer the next time you want to accomplish something. Nothing fails like prayer. Had more time been spent dealing with this family members problems directly as opposed to praying for him, maybe things would be different right now.  You should contemplate how insulting it is to me as an intellectual to suggest I pray. I'm not 5 years old, I understand that prayer is bullshit. As for laughter... I do so all the time. Had it been a different day, I'd be laughing at you right now.  Forgive me for saying that, sometimes laughing at other humans is the only (or at least most effective) way to cope with their superstitious ignorance.  Here are some proofs that prayer is worthless: http://www.rationalresponders.com/forum/sapient/atheist_vs_theist/747  God less man... It's all so clear now. Jesus is The Giver.

A place common to all will be maintained by none. A religion common to all is perhaps not much different.

I think ? this Christian is

I think ? this Christian is on a lucky path of de-conversion. Yeah Christ is real, a real myth ..... and that Jesus hates religion too !

.... abstracting what is really [Jesus'] from the rubbish in which it is buried, [is like separating] the diamond from the dung hill… Thomas Jefferson

, I leave debating historical Jesus to the pros, but it's obvious the bible story of Jesus is goofy, and the god of abe is a terrible idea and curse.

There are many atheists who support the moral character of the Jesus represented by the likes of the "Sermon on the Mount", who disliked the religious hypocrites who then killed him. Great epic story.

"We find in the writings of his biographers ... a groundwork of vulgar ignorance, of things impossible, of superstitions, fanaticisms and fabrications". -- Thomas Jefferson ( yeah even if jesus had existed...)

But in admiration and respect for such a Jesus, myth or not, I don't see why anyone would dirty themself with a "Christian" lable. Seems an insult to hero "Jesus".

Regarding prayer, I would change that to "meditate", which would be much more in tune to what said Jesus would have really been about.

Here's an essay I especially wish the Xains would read, written by a progressive Hindu. All the essays here are helpful. ( But please don't be turning Hindu on me ....)

'Why a Hindu Accepts Christ and Rejects Churchianity'

http://www.hinduism.co.za/jesus.htm#Why%20a%20Hindu%20accepts%20Christ%20and%20rejects%20churchianity

Hands down, the progressive Buddists and Pantheists (atheists) , I most respect in a religious sense, but of course that isn't religion ..... but so Jesus story like who's script reads 'this is god/heaven right now, and ye are gods'..... hey if he didn't say it I AM sayin it !

This is worth checking out , 'Atheists for Jesus' http://www.atheists-for-jesus.com/index.php

, Holy crap sure does stink ..... I can't take it anymore, religion is killing me. How I can turn off this stinky bizzar nightmere .... Beer !

I'm jonesing bad for a summer sea doo ride, okay I could go sky diving, .... please pray for me ! ..... louder please .....

I know what some of you are thinking, ..... 'hope the parachute fails' ..... want me GOD dead do ya?.... hey I might send you to hell for that thought ....

Wishful Tom Jefferson said .... 'the way to silence religious disputes, is to take no notice of them'. yeah I WISH we could .....

Thanks for hating me, especially you Christians, my life indeed has purpose.

I'll put a spell on you .... cause yer mine ..... I AM JESUS AS YOU !

  Here are some follow up

Here are some follow up emails....

Hmmmm, let me do some research on the things you've said as I have to see both sides for the truth to appear. Thanks for taking the time to talk to me I know you have lots of people screaming and stuff like that. ( i.e the religious wierdos)

I might come on your forum some time, see what's being posted. One question though, are the theist's posts actually deleted? Cause that wouldn't let both sides come through.

Theists are not allowed to post in the freethinker forum, other than that theist posts aren't deleted anymore than atheist posts are deleted. We remove trolls, and trollish posts, but if you look around you'll see plenty of theists who have managed to accumulate hundreds of posts and have never had a post deleted.

We've had Matt Slick on the show. I like a few of his articles, some of them I think speak poorly to what the majority of Christians believe. I believe I once read a story about the Christmas Tree of which if I recall correctly, he wasn't a fan of. Those articles of course make me chuckle, not sure what your gripes are with the way religion runs, but the origins of the Christmas holiday is a good example of something I don't think a "good jesus" would want. When we had Matt on our show I thought he did terribly, unfortunately he did a good job of pinning blame on how we addressed him rather than what was addressed. I feel as if he ran from the topic, a topic I feel is the most illogical of all his arguments (presuppositions).

So I'd imagine you debate against religion and atheism at the same time, and try to debate for what you see as a good Christ-like life?

Sorry if I came off as harsh at first, you seem like a nice person.

If you would like to join the overall conversation on my site, and you remain cool I'll make sure the mods allow you to stick around.

Thanks man, I think you're a nice person too. About 2 years ago I didn't think athiests could be nice but I have been very educated. Some of the most kind hearted people I know are aitheists.

Ohhhh nooooo, thats what I say when x-mas comes! (I say x-mas because the holiday really has very little to do with Christ) It is a, "Religious" holiday in every use of the word. Actually, theologians have traced the date of Christ's birth to about June/July! X-mas was created as a Christian holiday to keep people from the pagan holiday (which was at the same time.) And in today's society Christmas is about santa, presents, giftshops, stress, and everything else that comes with it. Makes me sick! Devoted Christians just have to step back into the silence and remember what it's supposed to be about.

Yea I hate religion, and X-mas is constantly moving from Christ into a religion.

Thank you for inviting me to your forums, I'll be there! And you don't have to worry I never post, "extremist" stuff! Besides, I think it would be good to debate on an evolution based forum for a while.

Until next time, please think of me as, a friend.

REPLY

Alright, let me introduce myself, I am Mat. I'm 16 years old and I've been debating anti-Christian issues for about 2-3 years. Just recently realized that debating creo vs. evo gets no where! Though I do still debate it, but I now know that unless the debate is between the same level of education, the debate is usually a stalemate. Experienced creationists and evolutionists alike, know that both sides have some good points. So I really don't want to get in a creo vs. evo debate in this site, if you want to I'll take people one at a time through email ([email protected]) but if I debate here it will be 20 vs 1!

Something I have to clear up: Some of you recognized that "mat4Christ" and started asking yourself where you've heard it before. Well, my twin brother logged in and posted some stupid messages in these forums, and what's worse he claimed me as his relative! So please realize that he just got started debating so he is very, very, in-mature in the process! I wish I could cut him off or something but my parents won't do that, so maybe the mods could just delete his account or something!

And something that really stirred my blood when I read it. Someone said that I was "on the lucky path to deconversion." This is VERY untrue! Guys, I hate religion yes, but I am a full die hard and with your clip empty warrior Christian! (Some of you probably got a mental picture of the pope with a machine gun shooting his foot trying to use it!) Anyway, I have a message very few Christians understand. I'd say about 5% or less ofall church going Christians actually hold to the teachings of Jesus Christ. For all you Christian theists out there I know that one hurt, leave your computer and go get your mommy to kiss da booboo better! I'M NOT HERE TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY!!! I'm here to reveal the truth! THERE ARE SO MANY CROWD PLEASERS IN PULPITS IT MAKES ME SICK!!!
The truth is that when Jesus walked the earth, it was the "Religious" people that gave him such a hard time. It was the "Religious" people that eventually crucified him!

As a warrior under the leadership of Jesus Christ, I will serve my anti-Christian brothers. True Christians don't judge, they don't fight, they don't bring down the party, they serve others. As Jesus did.

Please guys if you want to debate please go to my email. Let's have fun here not fighting!
P.S. Can anyone celebrate with me? I just got promoted last night in Tae Kwon Do to the rank of deputy black belt! Non-alcoholic drinks all around!
