Exposing The Creationist's False Claim
Author: Steven Hoole
Evolution, most often described as "The Theory Of Evolution" by creationists is in fact a misunderstanding. There is a theory of evolution, however creationists will offer that evolution is just a theory. Where the word just is used to devalue the word theory. They imply that in a hierarchy of knowledge fact is higher up than a theory. This is a complete misunderstanding and is false.
To understand why, we must first find out what these phrases mean: theory and fact. A fact according to the English language dictionary is something shown to be true, to exist or to have happened. I will just add onto that, it is true as far as we can tell from all current evidences at this time. For example with gravity apples could start floating tomorrow which would change the facts of gravity, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Charles Dickens Critical Review & Psychoanalysis
Submitted by Hamandcheese on October 4, 2007 - 11:04pm.These are my two responses to Charles Dickens' Great Expectations in the form of a critical review and, below it, a psychoanalysis.
Great Expectations response/critical review.

I cannot understand how quickly some people resolve to propitiate Dickens unbearably long novels on the basis of their themes and formidable writing styles. I cannot stress enough how needlessly long his books, particularly this one, are. Therein, Pip's story is like an eloquent British chap of maturing age who is still allowed to awkwardly breast feed off his aging mother, with an ostentatious pinky in the air; literally, Dickens is milking it for all it's worth.

Solution to Anti-Evolutionists: Natural Selection
Submitted by strick09 on October 4, 2007 - 9:47am.I don't know how things are around you, but out here in eastern Indiana, the debate of Creation vs. Evolution rages on. We've got Dr. Terry Mortensen coming to town from AiG in a week, the local newspaper forums with a constant struggle between rationality and stupidity, etc.
Well I've got a solution for it all. Creationists should stand up for their cause by swearing off modern Medicine and Doctors. Modern Biology pretty much owes everything about it to the Theory of Evolution. So every time you take cold medicine, get a flu shot, or use anti-fungal creams you are receiving the benefits of many scientists who worked very hard and firmly believed in the idea of Evolution. (For what it's worth, some of them may also have believed in God, but it's highly unlikely that any of them were creationists).

Religious Fundamentalism, Imperialism and "The War on Terror"
Submitted by zack on October 3, 2007 - 1:28am.The following is a reprint of an article from Revolution.
Here it is important to answer the argument that is not infrequently made—including by people whose stance is to oppose religion in general—that while all religious fundamentalism is bad and harmful, there is something particularly evil and dangerous about Islamic fundamentalism. This, for example, is the position of Sam Harris, author of The End of Faith: Religion, Terror and the Future of Reason and Letter to a Christian Nation; and it is the stand rather obviously and quite aggressively insisted on by Christopher Hitchens, whose recent book, and in a concentrated way its title, God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, encapsulates the contradiction I am speaking to here. On the one hand, as expressed in the secondary part of the title, Hitchens' book is a broadside against religion in general; but the first, and main, part of the title involves—and is no doubt meant to involve—a very definite salvo directed against Islam in particular: it is a "negative echo," so to speak, of the common Islamic invocation: God is Great. It is not hard to see how this position dovetails rather neatly with that of the Bush regime and the U.S. imperialists in general with their "war on terror" and its declared target of "Islamic extremists."

Louisiana Promoting Ignorance in Education Since 1858
Submitted by Nospacesallowed on October 2, 2007 - 12:20pm.Ever since the proposal of Evolution in 1858 creationist groups have been fighting the theory. Now thanks to a proposal by the extremely Evangelical senator from David Vitter creationism has gotten a new toe hold into our school systems. According to an article in the The New Orleans newspaper The Time-Picayune.
Sen. David Vitter, R-La., earmarked $100,000 in a spending bill for a Louisiana Christian group that has challenged the teaching of Darwinian evolution in the public school system and to which he has political ties
Besides this being an obvious political maneuver with no real interest in our kids future, and this possibly being perceived as a type of atonement for past sins, (mainly the visiting of a Washington DC Madame) the teaching of creationism has been shown, in court cases, to be impossible to separate its ties to religion. If Louisiana passes this money it would be the state, our government, sponsoring religion. I believe our constitution has something to say about that. Something about Congress shall pass no law respecting the establishment of religion. See first amendment or the wall above the door to the Al Neuharth Media Center. Now it is not unknown for the religious to receive funding from the government, but they are not allowed to proceed to teach their myths as fact. That is really what this money is for, David Vitter admitted it. According to an article from National Center for Science Education, "In a written statement, Vitter explained, 'This program helps supplement and support educators and school systems that would like to offer all of the explanations in the study of controversial science topics such as global warming and the life sciences.'"
GOD DOES NOT EXIST
Submitted by Rich_Rodriguez on October 2, 2007 - 11:52am.Does God exist? This is one of the most important questions affecting our modern world. Primitive man attributed almost everything in his natural environment to god or gods of some kind. Many devout ancient northern Europeans once worshipped the god Thor. Legend has it that he defeated the personification of “Old Age” in battle. Thor, whose name in Old English is “Þunor” gave his name to the day Þunresdæg, meaning the day of Þunor, known in Modern English as Thursday. Þunor (Thor) is also the source of the modern word thunder for which he was once thought to be responsible for. Primitive man would hear Thunder and attribute it to Thor having a bad day or dispensing judgment for some blasphemy.
The question we should ask is why Thor is no longer worshipped? Even today science has yet to fully explain the phenomenon of thunder. Aristotle thought it was the caused by cloud collisions. In the 20th century a consensus evolved that thunder must begin with a shock wave in the air due to the sudden thermal expansion of the plasma in the lightning channel. The reason I bring up Thor and the phenomenon of thunder, is they are representative of what was once considered a gap in human understanding. What was once considered a mystery is now easily answered with the advent of science. Sure it’s a theory but it is one which can be tested and has a high probability of truth.
Why All Atheist Are Mythicist
Submitted by Rich_Rodriguez on October 2, 2007 - 11:31am.IN REGARDS TO THE HISTORICITY OF YESHUA BEN YUSEF
WHY EVERY ATHEIST IS A MYTHICIST
Over the past few hundred years, scholars have been divided on the historicity of the character known as Yeshua ben Yusef aka (Jesus Christ). The division is the result of a tendency to give the gospel accounts more credibility than they deserve. This subject has been answered at length by Rook on these boards and is not the issue I wish to address at this time. In a way this post is for those, who (like myself) deny the credibility of the accounts attested to in the canonical gospels.
The character known as Jesus in the gospels has the following things said about him:

Isn't War an outdated idea , so why won't it go away ? main reason $$$$$$$$$$, the #1 reason behind the actions that cause hate, is Greed, #2 is ignorance. The Solution is L O V E ..... don't "Feast on your enemies, stop the cannibals!"
Most of my friends say they are Christians, so I have to work in that mind set and language, as Jesus worked on the Jews, and to correct that inventer of Christianity Paul, who really worked us all over.
