My favorite Christian of the week.

Normally I'd make a big stink over how much I like guys like this. People that at least try to "get us." Lost in the mix of our fight against evil in Operation Spread Eagle, I am neglecting to remind people that there are Christians and Muslims out there that could live in a world with others... however it's a rare few. I personally would have no problems becoming silent about my atheism, the moment there was no need to speak up. What the religious people see in me today, they've built on their own deck of dishonesty, ignorance, and hate. So as I say a "big fuck you, and snap out of it" to roughly 50% of the world, allow me to point out what I think a "good Christian" looks like.

It's hard to count more than a few Christian names I can respect. Father Matthew Moretz is one of them, and add John Shore to the list.

Thanks John for being the best Christian in the world this week. Feel free to drop him a line and say thanks for trying.

What the Atheists Taught Me

In my last post I asked atheists to talk about their relationship to their guilt.

Term Wars

There's something that has always bugged me about certain people's arguments. For example, the creationist thermodynamics argument they keep throwing out like a dead cow and saying "whaddya think about that! Betcha never seen this before, have ya?" It obvious that when they talk about entropy it's vastly different from the way physicits and information theorists talk about it. An argument over terminology and what entropy is usually ensues, diluting the overall point like an impromptu red herring.

I've often tried to solve this problem by going along with what I think they think whatever verb they are using means, and slowly shifting their view of it to its actual definition within the context. I think such arguments over terminology only serve to put the listener on the offensive even more and distract from the topic, and are therefore useless WITHOUT AN AUDIENCE. That's why the broadcast format works so much better than individual intervention; it's not the person you're arguing with who you're trying to persuade, it's the people who happen to be listening.

Added: June 03, 2007 From: Desertphile DESERTPHILE HEREBY PLACES THIS, HIS I... DESERTPHILE HEREBY PLACES THIS, HIS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, INTO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN.

In nearly every sermon Rev Kent Hovind has given, and in nearly all of the video, audio, and DVD recordings of his sermons, he has stated that he was a high school science teacher for fifteen years.

The Power of Prayer

You hear time and again that prayers have an enormous power. They heal nations, bring people together and save lives, or does it? The question of whether prayer has an effect was looked at in a study in 2006. From a Washington post article called "Prayer Doesn’t Aid Recovery, Study Finds."

The new $2.4 million study, funded primarily by the John Templeton Foundation, was designed to overcome some of those shortcomings. Dusek and his colleagues divided 1,802 bypass patients at six hospitals into three groups. Two groups were uncertain whether they would be the subject of prayers. The third was told they would definitely be prayed for.

Do you live near Richmond IN? (ZIP: 47374) We need your help! (Answers in Genesis is coming!)

If you live near Richmond, IN, we need your help. Answers in Genesis is coming to our town to spread their lies. The website is here:
http://wvete.com (note that they mispelled "Examine" in the browser's titlebar...tee-hee!)

I'm trying to assemble a group of people to go down and just make our presence known. Attend the conferences and point out fallacies, incorrect points, etc. A speaker FROM AiG will be there, so this is the real deal!

Interested parties should contact me at: aahill [at] indiana [dot] edu

Richmond, IN is located on the eastern border of Indiana, on I-70. It is ~100 miles from either Indianapolis or Columbus, and is about 45 minutes from Dayton.

Facebook Censorship

So much for Facebook believing in "free speech." Ever since I started patrolling religious Facebook groups and notifying them of their delusion, I had my account disabled.

Note to all those on Facebook: don't say anything about your unbelief. You will be disabled. Then again, what do you expect...they're an American-run site and seeing as how atheists in America are oppressed and it's perfectly acceptable to do so in America I guess they can get away with it.

What a load of bullshit. Facebook atheists, stand up for your rights to free speech.
