Frank Miller's 300 :: NOT anti-Iran propaganda, but a Freethinking manifesto.
Submitted by SF on March 24, 2007 - 3:33pm.Many reviewers on the Internet have jumped in the U.S.A.-bashing bandwagon again by claiming the movie "300" is just anti-Iran propaganda.
Let's see how that argument might work:
a: The antagonist of the story is the huge Persian army.
b: Iranians are the descendants of the ancient Persian people.
c: Frank Miller's Spartans fought for freedom; Bush also likes to speak of freedom.
a + b + c = d: "It's a conspiracy to make Iran look bad, because George Bush is evil; oh, and btw 9/11 was an inside job!"
Well allow me to retort! That is MADNESS! and it sure as hell isn't Sparta.
New to RRS.
Submitted by Atheist Dave on March 24, 2007 - 3:09am.I am new to RRS but have been an Atheist for about 10 years and "out" for about 6. It will take some time for me to get familiar with all the sites but I plan to stay involved for a long time. One of my interests is getting groups to join and cooperate. I live just south of Richmond Virginia and would like to meet anyone from my area. I have recently gotten involved with several local goups and attend meetings somewhat regularly. Most of the members of these groups are just as passionate as many of us online but are not quite aware of how powerful we have become. Many are much older and most are very well educated (retired professors, PHDs etc..). If anyone in the Richmond area is interested feel free to contact me.
Class Reunion
Submitted by MattShizzle on March 23, 2007 - 12:23pm.Tomorrow (Saturday) is my 15 year class reunion. I am likely the only atheist in my class - there are plenty of fundies. Luckilly most of them are ignorant and never debated religion, and those that have only know the shit we have tossed already. I am ready to tear them a new asshole. Wish me luck!

Still unanswered.
Submitted by Holy_Spirit_is_... on March 21, 2007 - 6:40pm.I have been accused of being unable to ask valid questions, and of not knowing much science. Accordingly, what I ask now is not a question but rather all of your Rational Responses to the video accessed by the link at the bottom of this entry. Please take some time out of your busy schedules to view it, even if it...
"...means facing answers that you don't like."

My anticipation is that the first responses will fire back on the age of the film, the nationalities of its scientists, or things against myself as a person, but I earnestly beg that only "Rational Responses" be ushered in please.
Where was that 'God"?
Submitted by chazk on March 21, 2007 - 5:36pm.The Vatican is the first in a long list of Christian organizations to be sued for inadequate protection of the public from "acts of God".
musings on the differences...
Submitted by spanish rationalist on March 17, 2007 - 2:57pm....between there and here. i've lived here, and there too, and i spend a lot of time defending here from american attacks and there from european ones...
here the government has taken on the church head to head: legalised gay marriage, is working on easing the religious out of public education, (it's not a constitutional requirement here, just a sensible idea), and when you start talking about america here, you get.........
(apart from the usual appalling ignorance that many europeans have about the usa, matching exactly the extraordinary lack of knowledge some americans have about europe),

The Man Behind the Mask : The Home of the Antichrist
Submitted by chazk on March 16, 2007 - 10:21pm.glad to be here
Submitted by spanish rationalist on March 16, 2007 - 8:18pm.found this site via the richard dawkins official website and immediately knew i'd found my spiritual home....... though i have to say, secular europe is almost certainly a nicer place to be rational than the usa right now. the superstitious are in a shrinking minority here, and no politician would dream of trying to use his religious beliefs as a springboard to election.
on the other hand, they are also as dumb as deeply religious politicians.
life can be depressing.
