Why would anyone want to believe something ike that!

The christian model of salvation has, for all of christian history, been about man's defiance of god's will and a hero-saviour that appeases that god's wrath over this defiance. It is relatively simplistic, and straightforward. The god was a parent who issued directives at man the child, the child defiantly disobeyed the father-god's directive, and god smacked the child for disobedience. The father-god has been smacking the child-man ever since. Then one day the parent-god sends a special child-man down and smacks him around for a bit. This child-man gets smacked around in order to stop god from smacking around his brothers. Therefore, all you have to do is to believe that this special child-man existed and put your faith in that special child-man and father-god will stop smacking you around.

Tacitus, Lucian and Josephus

This is just a brief outline of an entry I will add to later.

Those interested in learning about a complete lack of any historical corroboration for Jesus should go here:

http://www.rationalresponders.com/a_silence_that_screams_no_contemporary_historical_accounts_for_jesus Key points to be made:

Common historical citations for Jesus are bandied about uncritically on many websites.

These claims fall to pieces upon examination.

The Flaws:

1) None are contemporary accounts
2) Some are frauds (The Testimonium)
3) Some only reference christians, and not 'jesus the christ'
4) Several only reference religions leaders, or folks like 'chrestus' and not Jesus the christ.

Oxygen in the beginning

Our present atmosphere consists of 78% nitrogen (N2), 21% molecular oxygen (O2), and 1% of other gases, such as carbon dioxide CO2), argon (Ar), and water vapor H2O). An atmosphere containing free oxygen would be fatal to all origin of life schemes. While oxygen is necessary for life, free oxygen would oxidize and thus destroy all organic molecules required for the origin of life. Thus, in spite of much evidence that the earth has always had a significant quantity of free oxygen in the atmosphere,(3) evolutionists persist in declaring that there was no oxygen in the earth's early atmosphere. However, this would also be fatal to an evolutionary origin of life. If there were no oxygen there would be no protective layer of ozone surrounding the earth. Ozone is produced by radiation from the sun on the oxygen in the atmosphere, converting the diatomic oxygen(O2) we breathe to triatomic oxygen O3), which is ozone. Thus if there were no oxygen there would be no ozone. The deadly destructive ultraviolet light from the sun would pour down on the surface of the earth unimpeded, destroying those organic molecules required for life, reducing them to simple gases, such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water. Thus, evolutionists face an irresolvable dilemma: in the presence of oxygen, life could not evolve; without oxygen, thus no ozone, life could not evolve or exist.

Quick thought

Since you can do pretty much what every you want and then ask god for forgiveness, and be forgiven. Can I ask god for forgiveness for being an atheist? Can I tell him I'm sorry he failed?

I promise I won't tell anybody of his failure.

God and celebrity syndrome

Celebrity syndrome. While I made the name up for this as I typed this out, it's a phenomena that's all too real. Celebrities going to court, and getting left off with little in the way of punishment. Why? It's because he/she was in this movie/sung this song/made this painting etc.

No one personifies this sick defendo ad popularity then god.
He could destroy the world at the snap of fingers, for the stupidest reason, and that'll be okay. Why? 'Cause it's god. Never mind the fact that we are supposed to have received morals from it. It's stupid no matter which way you cut it. He made the universe... SO WHAT?! He made me... SO WHAT?! It's not like he asked, and said "'K fine."

Theist Argument Checklist

I decided to make a 'theist argument" checklist - to basically map out 90% of the arguments we get here.

I started working on this a while ago, and I thought I'd post what I have, and have some of you help complete it. Make suggestions, and I'll add the to the list.

Basically, what I have now is some of the common statements theists make, and I have decided to score the statements along the "fundythink" scale.

Anyway, here is what I have so far.

Theist argument checklist

A collective score of over 100 = fundythink (tm)
a collective score over 300 = an honorary doctorate in Fundi-logic

For Skeptics of Christianity

So are you skeptical of Christianity?

Are you looking "everywhere" for answers to a few tough questions but find nothing because no Christian can give you a straight answer that makes sense?

Young Earth would nullify Evolution

Only a single shred of undeniable evidence of an Earth less than even 1 million years old would create lots of problems for Evolutionists.

Here's a link for 14 possibilities to chew on...counterpoise?

A universe too complex for a creator.

I was thinking of that whole notion that "life/theuniverse is too complex to have a creator." and the argument of "A painting has a painter, so creation needs a creator."

But then it kinda got me, A painting needs a painter, but someone else need to make the paint and the canvas, a painting is made by several people (And that's not including the people who made the materials for the canvas and the paint in the first place, heck it's not even including the people who invented the paint and canvas.). Music, computers, require many people to make (In one form or another).

So I thought, is the universe too complex for ONE creator? If it had to have been made, then there must have been a team.

Hell, a bad place... for theists?

Now we probably heard someone say that "Hell isn't a place that has tourture and all that jazz, but it's a place where there is a lack of god."

I take it they mean "Earth 2, but this time there's definitely no god here."

Now imagine this scenario, you die, you go... somewhere, then you find yourself with god, he says "Oh, you don't believe in me. Bye then!"

Poof!

You're on Earth 2 (Hell), of course you're not an atheist (Since you have seen god), but you've been without god for most (If no all) of your life. So it's no biggy. Chances, if you've ever been a christian at any point there might be a little emotional bit going, but should be over thanks in part to the crying of the naughty christians (Gets some boots on and kick 'em, it's fun!).
