Rational response needed to serious spiritual conundrum
Submitted by Atheistextremist on September 19, 2009 - 12:33am.I have died and as I am a sinner I've been cast into the fiery pit of hell, replete with demons, pitchforks and eternal re-runs of my three sons.
When I died my earthly body passed away and I became a spirit. Given the fundamentals of convection, how long can my spirit remain in
the lake of fire before being wafted up to heaven?
Today at work,,,,,,,,,,
Submitted by Brian37 on September 12, 2009 - 6:47pm.Today a guy came into where I work and sat down. At first I didn't recognize him, but couldn't help think "Where have I seen him before?"
Then it hit me when I saw the shirt he was wearing "goarmy.com". I had seen this guy on the Dateline Show, "To Catch A Predator".
I remember him because when Cris Hanson came into the kitchen he got on his knees begging Hanson not to report him because he was military and because he had a family. Not something someone would want to be famous for.

Intern, Boyfriend Tangle Tenn. Sen. Paul Stanley in Sex Scandal
Intern's Boyfriend Arrested for Extortion After Discovering Photos From Senator's Affair
By SARAH NETTER
July 29, 2009 —
What began as a government internship for a one-time honors student with a questionable past has become a full-blown sex scandal that ensnared a married Tennessee state senator and led him to resign.
Republican Sen. Paul Stanley had maintained a low profile until his announcement late Tuesday that he was resigning from the state Senate effective Aug. 10, after his affair with a 22-year-old intern and a subsequent extortion attempt was revealed to the public.
Stanley, a 47-year-old evangelical Christian with two children, said in his resignation letter that he has "decided to focus my full attention on my family."
Euthyphro's Dilemma
Submitted by okamura on July 29, 2009 - 11:45am.Hello All,
I am sure many in this forum know Euthyphro's Dilemma which can be stated as follows :
"Is what is moral commanded by God because it is moral, or is it moral because it is commanded by God?"
I would like to explore the implications of this dilemma with specifically Christian theists. In this thread, we will address the dilemma to Christians who subscribe to the notion that what is moral or immoral is so because God says so. We can move onto the second part of the dilemma in another thread (if everyone is still interested).
OK then. The worldview that "that which is moral is moral because it is commanded by God" is also known as the Divine Command Theory.
This implies the following :
1. It is futile for humans to attempt to intelligently learn what is good and bad, moral or immoral. Because only God can decide.
2. The whole concept of the goodness of God is meaningless since there is no standard above God for us to refer to in order to agree and decide that God is indeed good. Good is just what God says.
Now consider the following :
A Christian meets God and God tells him that he is to go to hell despite the fact that he has accepted Jesus as his saviour, he has to say that it is good and moral. Why ? Simply because God says so. Good and bad are just what God decides. What is moral is so because God says so.
a litmus test.

"Over my head, I hear music in the air; over my head, I hear music in the air; over my head, I hear music in the air; there must be a God somewhere"
This is a stanza from an African American slave spiritual. I had told someone else here that our typical atheist would have a hard to understanding it. And the reason for this difficulty is not because they are atheist, but rather the questions that go behind this sort of song, are foreign to their own limited lives.
So what does it mean for the slave to hear music over his head? And why does he infer from hearing music, that there must be a God? How do the two correlate?
