Atheist vs. Theist

Problems I have with most atheists...

Even though I am one of them. Are these stereotypes? Yes. But they are just the attitude of most atheists I meet, unfortunatly.

1.) Cynicism - Living in a world where everyday you are literally *surrounded* by people who believe in imaginary things can be pretty frustrating. One of the things that turned me to atheism was the realization that there is no point in focusing on any life but this one, and to take advantage of it because you only get one and are infinitly lucky to be alive considering the literally infinite number of people who are never born. When I meet atheists who are atheist because of how dark and dreary they see the world, it makes me sad for them. Is the world a screwed up place? Certainly. Sulking only makes it worse and perpetual.

Jesus' Disciples

So what was up with the twelve disciples? Those guys did some pretty wacky stuff, huh?

Whether or not you are religious, there is sound evidence to show that Jesus was, at least, a real man. I'm not going to take the time to cite any sources unless someone challenges me on this... but it is fairly well-documented that Jesus lived, as did his twelve disciples, and that Jesus was indeed crucified for his radical words.

Now I'm not trying to prove anything here... indeed, I doubt there will ever be certain proof for or against a greater divine power... but I have a question about the disciples that I've always wanted to ask a group of informed atheists.

monotheism my ass

So while thinking about religion today, I had this thought about jesus...and all the sudden it hit me. Jesus is a demi-god.

The bible explains this as some kind of holy-trinity, father son and holy spirit or some weird shit like that, wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity

that's a load of shit. Jesus was born from god and mary according to the book, right? So he's half-god, half-human, and thus a demi-god.

This is not monotheism...apparently I'm not the only person whose thought of this, after searching around the net (and wikipedia) turns out...hey maybe there's something to this...so I thought about it some more...

Proofs that prayer doesn't work.

Unless of course the goal is talking to yourself, prayer doesn't work.

On Faith

Common Sense
On Faith
by Staks Rosch

Many people in the rational world seem to have serious issues with faith. They dislike the idea that people can believe in things without any evidence or reason for doing so. And while I agree with their position to some extent, I am skeptical of how the idea of faith is so casually thrown away without serious thought or consideration.

I disagree with the secular world's definition of faith. Is faith really belief without reason? Is such a thing even possible? According to modern psychology, all our actions and beliefs are caused by a combination of our genetics (nature) and our learned experiences (nurture). Sometimes this process is so complicated that the average person might not even realize it is taking place. Nevertheless, every decision we make and every belief we hold are reasoned ones. However, that doesn't necessarily mean they are reasoned well.

!00% proof and a lack of Knowledge.

When debating some theists the question arises whether they are 100% sure that there is a god. It was not my question as I know that faith can make anyone 100% sure that i am wearing red lacy g strings (ooopppps did that come out).

So here are there responses there must be a standard refutation for this isnt there:

What would you have to have to prove this statement.

"There is no gold in China"

You would have to scour every square centimeter of the country and then go through all the dirt underneath to prove that statement.

All knowledge, as jorowi said.

But to prove it wrong, all you would need is one little itsy bitsy teeny weenie gold flake SOMEWHERE in that huge country.

My post on why I'm here. (split off by mod)

I AM ON THIS WEBSITE TO GET A TASTE OF WHAT IT IS YOUR PEOPLE BELIEVE OR DO NOT BELIEVE. AS I HAVE SEEN SO FAR..WELL IT REMINDS ME OF A WHOLE BUNCH OF OLD MEN GATHERED AROUND A TABLE TRYING TO IMPRESS THE OTHER WITH WHO COULD SOUND THE SMARTEST OR WHO KNEW THE LONGEST WORD OR WHO COULD TRIP THE OTHER UP WITH SOME SORT OF WORD PLAY TYPE LOGIC.

YOU ATHEIST ARE SO CONTENT ON WAGING A WAR ON GOD. WHICH YOU ARE. IF YOU ARE SO CONTENT THAT THERE IS NO GOD THEN YOU WOULD NOT CARE SO MUCH. IT IS EVERYONE CHOICE TO MAKE WHETHER TO BELIEVE OR NOT TOO. I NEVER TRY TO SHOVE ANYTHING DOWN ANYONES THROAT. BUT YOU TRY TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL STUPID IF THEY HAVE AN OPINION NOT LIKE YOURS WHICH IS IN ITSELF NON-INTELLECTUAL.

Failure of A Christian- A Request to Rediscuss Episode 17

As I listened to episode 17, I couldn't help but wonder why someone like Travis (the professing Christian who came on the show) would put themselves in the spotlight and try to defend a faith that he had so little knowledge about.

As I continued to listen to the discussion, there were a few things brought up that Travis failed to give an answer for/to, and these are, in fact, what my whole point of starting this new thread is about.

To begin with, I'd like to just start with one of the basic things that came up in the discussion:

- the "contradictions" of the resurrection
