Atheist vs. Theist

SAVAGE's picture

I had a revelation while reading the bible.

Something I posted on the christian sites I am on:

Quote:
for the sake of this commentary I am going to assume that the god of christianity exists.I was reading my bible and found answers to some questions that had been elusive to me..perhaps I can share them with you and why they still remain elusive:

Does god hate anyone?

The answer to this is no....he does hate some

Quote:
Leviticus 20:23
And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

Psalm 5:5
The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Two questions for Christians

Can God make a rock so big that he can't lift it?

Could god have changed his plan for our existence before setting it into motion without affecting our free will?

Answering no to either shows us that god is not all powerful. Answering yes to the first one shows us that he's not all powerful. Answering yes to the second one shows us that God must want certain people to exist to convince others of his nonexistence.

Is America a Christian Nation?

This is another great nontract from the ffrf:

Is America a Christian Nation?

The U.S. Constitution is a secular document. It begins, "We the people," and contains no mention of "God" or "Christianity." Its only references to religion are exclusionary, such as, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust" (Art. VI), and "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" (First Amendment). The presidential oath of office, the only oath detailed in the Constitution, does not contain the phrase "so help me God" or any requirement to swear on a bible (Art. II, Sec. 1, Clause Cool. If we are a Christian nation, why doesn't our Constitution say so?

Predestination and Human Choice

what is your view on it? I will post mine.. as I am studying it right now. not being forced to study it but free willing studying it.

so what is it?

Evolution

get me wrong here,

but most people are completely irrational mainly due to the fact their brain and nervous system aren't developed/evolved as much yet...?

I'm not talking about the churchy that goes but is just to afraid to admit to themselves there is no afterlife.

maybe like... 3-4 generations from now, akbar muhammad and reverend john mark's grandchildren/decends will have rational thought.

...... if we can survive 3-4 generations of irrationality without any nuclear war... holy shit, that sounds like it might be tuff.

Dude, where's my personal experience?

OK now... I believe it's time someone asked this as well (or it has already been asked in a long-forgotten thread)

WHAT THE F**K ARE PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH GOD OR J C ???

Christians are so much babbling about their "personal experience with God and JC", that I really really really feel the urge to find out what kind of thing that is.

Personally, I haven't felt any extra-sensorial thingies while praying in my Christian years, I felt just like I should feel: I was staying staring at a blank wall, thinking like "How the heck is God going to give me what I ask him for?" (PS: I asked for a real whale, and haven't got one up to now).

religouse cow poop!!!

Ok I'm joking. I'm a Christian. I posted this on myspace and decided to come here and post. It's a logical explanation of how God can exist.

Let me back away from religion a bit.

Who says God can't be some super evolved alien? Even more, because of His great intellect we may even be some super program where the data objects(us) have a type of self awareness. Of course our awareness would be limited to the virtual environment in which we exist. And because of specific programming there's no way we can realize that we are nothing more than a program.

I'm sure you saw the matrix... That movie dealt with the fact that our senses can't totally be trusted. The idea that we see what we see because our minds tell us that that's what we see. It's the same with sound, touch, taste. So is this world real??? Yes. I see it, I hear things around me. I interact with it. But in what state does this world exist? It could be no more than a virtual environment created by a super intellectual being who calls Himself God. And to us He truly would be God since, as the programmer/designer He would have total control. Why can't we see Him? Because He exists in a world outside of our own.

Dear Believer

This is a great essay. It was originally a nontract written by Dan Barker for the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Dear Believer, ? You asked me to consider Christianity as the answer for my life. I have done that. I consider it untrue, repugnant, and harmful.

You expect me to believe Jesus was born of a virgin impregnated by a ghost? Do you believe all the crazy tales of ancient religions? Julius Caesar was reportedly born of a virgin; Roman historian Seutonius said Augustus bodily rose to heaven when he died; and Buddha was supposedly born speaking. You don?t believe all that, do you? Why do you expect me to swallow the fables of Christianity?

God wants me to show believers that he doesn't exist.

Surely if an all knowing god exists he knew that I would come into existence showing believers the flaws in his system, showing believers that the Abrahmic gods are impossible. If this god is all powerful he would've also been able to make sure I never came into existence, and this wouldn't have affected the free will of believers in the least. That argument aside, here's a more basic one for you...

Today, I was set to play a round of golf with my son. It rained. So instead of golfing I engaged several theists in a debate, recorded audio responses to irrational mail, worked in other back-end areas for RRS (try to avoid the easy joke), and edited a portion of a future show. Surely an all knowing god would've known that it was either golf or help end Religion. God chose to make it rain so that I would help end Religion, god wants me to end Religion.
